David Stevens Wall Art

Dave Stevens (Born 1955) grew up in Portland, Oregon but was born in Lynwood, California. He was a comic artist and illustrator. He is most famous for his pin-up style illustrations and for creating The Rocketeer comic book and film character. He received both the Kirby Award and an Inkpot Award for Best Graphic Album in 1986. His family relocated to San Diego, where for two years, he attended San Diego City College, and attended the then new annual San Diego Comic-Con International (formerly Comic-Con). He later assisted Manning on the Star Wars newspaper strip. Stevens began doing occasional comic book work; including providing illustrations, as well as creating the Aurora feature for Japan's Sanrio Publishing. From 1977 onwards, he drew storyboards for animated TV shows by Hanna-Barbera, including The Godzilla Power Hour and Super Friends, where he worked with animation and comics veteran, Wildey Doug.

For the remainder of the decade, Stevens continued to work in film and animation, joining the art studio of Richard Hescox and William Stout (both illustrators) in Los Angeles. They worked on projects for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Stevens’ works still cause a lot of excitement among art students, art teachers, and collectors. He primarily worked as an illustrator, and did a variety of painted and ink illustrations for comic book and book covers, prints, posters, private commissions and portfolios. Many discerning collectors like to stock his work because they have ready market. They can be used for both decorative and inspirational purposes, especially to art students and art teachers.
